  • 10:00 AM Collectors' Special Tour - Hall China Company
  • 10:30 AM Collectors' Special Tour - Homer Laughlin China Company
  • 3:00 PM Private Laughlin Art China Collection Tour - Leetonia, OH
  • 7:00 PM "Treasures Of East Liverpool "Silent and Live Auction" at the Country Club
There were displays set up at the opening breakfast. The large TS&T display was presented by Greg & Teresa Benkert of Cincinnatti, Ohio. To the left is a shot of gray Lu-Ray including some very hard to find pieces such as the salad bowl, chop plate and teapot. It looks like every possible piece in gray was represented.

The first image in the bottom row shows five Coral Craft patterns. Unfortunately, I didn't get good close ups of the patterns. Next to it is a display of Lu-Ray brochures.

Above are pieces of Lu-Ray in the four original colors, Persian Cream, Windsor Blue, Surf Green and Sharon Pink. Below are pictures of the decals that can be found on gray Lu-Ray, all of which are hard to find. You can also find these treatments on TS&T's Conversation shape.

Above: Souvenir shakers using the Lu-Ray shape and some shakers being used in the Versatile line (such as Sugar & Spice and Butter & Honey.) 2nd pic: More decorated Lu-Ray. The two plates at the bottom were done in the "601" pattern style, but the plates with the thick platinum decoration were no doubt done by an outside company. 3rd pic: handpainted Lu-Ray shapes. The treatment on the salad bowl is called, "Dutch Tulip" and those on the chop plate and muffin cover are, "Blue Crocus."

Below: Conversation shape in pastel glazes, "Dwarf Pine" pieces (a specific treatment on formal Versatile) and some good ol' "Design 70" pieces (my LEAST favorite line.) 2nd: Go along glass ware some of which was featured in vintage ads. Also there are look-alike coasters in their original box and backstamps

The first three pictures shown above are early TS&T examples. The chamber consists of a covered slop jar, brush holder, covered soap dish, pitcher and basin, chamber pot, shaving mug and small pitcher. They are decorated with violet decals and marked with the griffen backstamp. The third image shows a tankard set with dogs. There was one of these sets at Pottery City, but it was done in blue instead of gold. The fourth image shows some brightly decaled TS&T shapes.

Below: Vistosa and Lu-Ray chocolate sets. The first two pics are of Vistosa. Decaled Vistosa is very hard to find so the decaled cup and saucer shown in the second image was a surprise to see. The Lu-Ray chocolate sets in the last two images have decoration. The first has simple gold trim whereas the second has trim and floral decals.

Steve Sfakis had an exhibit of Knowles pottery most of which was early hard to find examples. The crowning jewel of the display was the large piece in the shape of the Knowles backstamp. On one side it said, "Edwin M. Knowles China Company" and on the other side it said, "Semi Vitreous." The bottom was marked Worlds Fair, complete with a trylon and sphere

The pieces below are examples of Hall China. The covered casserole looked like an odd shape. It was complete with a metal holder. The second image shows a Hall China chamber set and the last display was labeled as a, "lemonade set."

Being a Virginia Rose collector, it was nice to see the pieces shown in this grouping. Above are four pics of the same piece: an OvenServe plate with the "Fluffy Rose" a.k.a. VR-128 decal!

The next VR pieces are from the collection of Gary and Donna Kovar. The first image below shows a Swing demitasse cup and saucer with the VR-128 decal and some hard to find cream soups with liners. The next picture shows the rare liner. These generally have treatments that were used early in Virginia Rose production, but this one had VR-128.

After drooling over all the great pieces on display it was time to head out for the tours. The Hall China and HLC tours were basically held at the same time so I choose to go to HLC's and hit Hall's at a later date.
